Free Fever Treater: Tylenol and Motrin Dosing Wheel

Knowing how much Tylenol or Motrin to give your child can be challenging. The package inserts only give you an age or weight range. Moreover the dosing recommendations are often on the low side.

We are aware of this problem and have a solution. A dosing wheel for Tylenol and Motrin based on the exact weight of your child. Just set the wheel to the weight of your child and read how much Tylenol or Motrin to dispense. It's that simple.

Best of all

Our dosing wheel is free for every child who comes to the Stanford / LPCH Pediatric ED with a fever.

Dosing Wheel Instructions

1. Look at the correct side of the wheel for the medication being given (Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen).

2. Determine which concentration of medication you have (children's or infant's).

3. Turn the wheel to your child's weight indicated in lbs.

4. Administer the amount (mL) displayed.

5. Turn the clock in the center to the time the medication is given. This will serve as a reminder for the next dose to be given. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is given every 4 hours. Ibuprofen (Motrin) is given every 6-8 hours.
